Three fathers construct America’s smallest working barn
Sunday, June 18, 2017 -- (Long Beach, CA) -- How big must a barn be, if you're holding a barn-dance?
It doesn't matter, says the founder of the Party of Grace, a group that technically doesn't exist, but none the less holds it's first-ever barn dance on July 4th, to show ordinary Americans there is something to smile about again.
So how big is this working barn?
"Barney the Barn" isn't even big enough to actually dance within, since it is less than two foot square, but it’s job is to hold a record player, so people can shake hands and dance together.
Perhaps even a symbol tells us that starting something new can help save America.
"You have to work together to make a barn," said Billy Orton, who turned to two other dads for their help.
The other two fathers made it clear to not give their names.
Orton sketches a design.
The carpenter constructed America's smallest barn.
Another father used decades as a schoolteacher to show Orton how to use the tool and put "Barney the Barn" together.
The first-ever Barney barn-dance takes place in a downtown Long Beach Thai food restaurant, where perhaps a dozen people will eat and watch WWII Disney propaganda and a newsreel about Franklin Roosevelt together.
"The meeting starts with kindness," said Orton, whose first bit of business is from a guest speaker to help erect Barney, before putting an antique record player into the barn as everyone lines up for the "Soul Tran Hand-Bump Thank-You Dance."
The back wall of the barn -- actually, the only wall -- will display the Party of Grace logo, and the words of kindness, listening, and truth, which are the three goals of the organization.
It doesn’t matter what party guests belong to. Kindness, listening and truth are what matter.
After dancing as the symbol of people brought together through kindness, everyone listens to invited speakers. Prominent guests are told to give short speeches and everyone offer their own two cents.
The July 4th "Political Reviv'ul Mtg" barn dance starts at 6 PM for the "Food and Fun Hour" and at 7 PM goes to the "Kindness Listening Truth Hour."
No matter how much people want to talk or dance, the Party of Grace closes “Barney the barn” at 8PM, so everyone can walk two blocks, to watch fireworks of the Queen Mary.
Thai District restaurant is 140 Lindon Ave., at Broadway Street, Long Beach, CA 90802.
