Calling all Elvises
(ORANGE COUNTY, CA.) -- Invoking the power and glory of America’s one true king, state Assembly candidate William R. "Bill" Orton (D-Seal Beach) is calling OC’s Elvis Presley impersonators to drop a line, strum a tune and walk a precinct in support of his race for office.
"I sure would be honored to have an army of Elvises campaigning at my side," said Orton, who included several Elvis Presley tunes at a DJ’d "Go-Go Party" and political fundraiser held at Old World in May.
ORTON TO HIRE UP TO 100 ELVISES
Orton will pay up to 100 Elvises to help in his election effort. Orton also intends to hold an Elvis Election Eve concert, where cash prizes will be awarded for the best Skinny Elvis and Vegas Elvis.
The offer may raise eyebrows, but the goal is to spread awareness about a candidate that may otherwise get lost in the hubbub of the other campaigns.
"Elvis Presley still speaks to millions of people in America," said Orton, who asks performers to send email to <email@example.com> or visit his website for more details, at <http://billyorton.com/elvis.htm>.
Bill Orton is the Democratic nominee for the 67th Assembly district, which includes Huntington Beach, Seal Beach, Los Alamitos, Rossmoor, Cypress, La Palma, west Anaheim, Stanton, Garden Grove and Westminster.
